Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely in 2014
- Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
- Only a few puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
